A Grape Decline: California Pressures or Crop Changes?

We are taking a YoY look at grapes through July to understand what pressures are impacting. There was a ~20% downtick in treated acres for grapes through July 2025 vs. 2024. This includes traditional table grapes, raisin grapes, and wine grapes. Four of the top five products used in 2025 (by treated acres excluding adjuvants) are sulfur products with the top product being UPL’s Microthiol Disperss. The only top 5 product outside of sulfur is Bayer’s Movento Insecticide-Miticide. How it looks in PUREIntel:

Brand Treated Acres Percentage of Total
Microthiol Disperss 1,804,601 10.0%
Wilbur-Ellis Dusting Sulfur 1,259,410 7.0%
Integro Magic Sulfur Dust 481,545 2.7%
Movento 447,215 2.5%
Integro Magnetic Sulfur Dust 361,767 2.5%

The decline appears to be a part of an over-arching decline in YoY treated acres 2025 vs. 2024. We see a ~10% decline in treated acres across all product types excluding adjuvants. We anticipated seeing treated acres remain flat overall while seeing a big change in which products are in the top 5. This draws attention away from pressures causing these changes in treated acres as it appears to be more a more systemic change.
